# TPS563202S: How to check thermal analysis for TPS563202S

Hi,

I have selected TPS563202SDRLR as buck converter for my application (i.e., Vin = 4.8 to 9V , Vout = 3.3 V , Iout = 0.5A maximum).

This IC thermal resistance is 137 deg C/W .

Tj = TA + (RthetaJA * Pd), here How to calculate the power dissipation? shall i take load current or leakage current?

How to do thermal analysis for this IC? (Pass/Fail)

Need to know, whether this IC suits to my application or not!!

the Tj is around 32C based on 4.8v-9Vin-3.3Vout-0.5A loading @ 25 C.

If you want to estimate the Tj , you can get the eff based on Vin, Ivin,Vout,Iout ,

and Pd= Vin*Ivin-Vout*Iout - Pind

Pind is the loss on inductor , you can check this data from vendor's online tool , such as Murata or wurth . Or just taking DCR*IRMS^2 to approximate this value(not considering AC loss).

Then you can get the Tj=TA+ Pd*RthetaJA

Power dissipation consist of conduction loss and switching loss of MOSFET, which is hard to calculate.

Here I suggest you can use WEBENCH simulation tool to evaluate TPS563202S thermal performance.

As we don't have TPS563202S simulation model, the only difference between TPS563202S and TPS563202 is voltage accuracy, so you can use TPS563202 to evaluate thermal performance.

Below is simulation results:

Tj is only 37.23C, far below than 125°C maximum allowed junction temperature, which means IC won't have damage risk.

However, pass or fail a thermal analysis depends on your requirement on thermal, which have no uniform standard.
