TPS2116: 1.8V low current power muxing

Part Number: TPS2116

Hi,

Looking to power mux two 1.8V supplies to a processor to serve as primary and a back up supply, current needed it very small at 1mA max. Would like to see if TPS2116 would be a good fit here as most of the other power mux available have an VIN min that is too high. Current protection is not needed but rather what is liked is the automatic switchover when voltage sensing is too low.

Best regards,

  • Hi Alexis,

TPS2116 could work here as the voltages do seem to line up with what you are looking for.

On the other hand, 1mA is very small. TPS2116 is a power device and by this I mean it is more so built for a constant DC current of 2.5A. I think it will work but may be overbuilt for the application. Do note that the leakage current specifications are in the orders of a few uA in total. This doesn't take into account any potential current requirements from setting the priority with resistances to GND.

TI does offer a signal switch portfolio that is handled by a separate team. I would recommend you to take a look at those offerings as well.
