LMZ21700: Load Regulation at Light Load

Part Number: LMZ21700

Hi Support,

I have a question regarding LMZ21700's load regulation at light load.

As illustrated in the plot, <10mA, the regulator seems to enter another operating region. From my estimation (I am using 12V to 5V), the PSM to PWM transition should happen at ~0.32A, so this is too early. Can you share some insight regarding this region?

  • Hi Haojie,

In PSM mode, the output voltage rises slightly above nominal value in PWM mode. The PSM mode did happen at 0.32A. But at that condition, the switching frequency just starts to reduce for transition to power save mode. So the output voltage has no obvious changes. For load current<10mA, the switching frequency is pretty low, therefore, you can see higher voltage.

    Thanks,

    Nancy
