TPS62067-Q1: the max load current capability

Part Number: TPS62067-Q1

Dear team,

My customer test IL( inductor current) of 62067, and they find there is a current pulse(max 2.4A) as below, but our device has no load when testing below waveform. Could you please help analyze why the inductor current is so large under no load condition?

In addition, my customer wants to test our load current capability, so they added the 2A electronic load to 62067 with CC mode, and the power up our device, but our device has no output. Only when they decrease the current of electronic load to 0.8A, our device begins to have the 3.3V output voltage. Could you please help analyze this phenomenon?

Thanks & Best Regards,

Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

Normally, high spike on input is expected and there is huge capacitors bank on output.  Is customer concern regarding entering into current limit? Can you please repeat measurements with resistive load instead of electronic load?

What is the inductor saturation current here?

    Thanks!

    Best regards,

  • Hi Tanvee,

Below waveform is the inductor current waveform(blue) under no load. We don't understand why the current pulse is so large, 2.24A? In my understanding, this current pulse should comes from the output capacitor C*dv/dt, but this computing result is smaller than 2.24A. Do you have any idea for this current?

The customer use 2A electronic load to simulate just because they may need 2A load current. Currently our device can't work normally with electronic load, and they are worried our device stop working if the load current vary to 2A. For the inductor saturation current, I am checking.

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

I need more information before reaching to conclusion. Could you provide more information about layout and information where the input/ output rails are connected? Could you share system schematics?  it will give understanding why inductor is sinking more current.

Can they try to evaluated it on EVM? If information is confidential than you can share offline as well.

    Best regards,

    Tanvee

  • Hi Tanvee,

There is no EVM on ti.com. Could you please help ship me one EVM board?

    Thanks & Best Regards,

    Sherry

  • Hi Sherry,

EVM is still in stock. Please check the link below.
