TPS2595: how MAX and MIN value of Iout current limit is calculated?

Part Number: TPS2595

Hi Team,

Datasheet shows Ilimit can be calculated by following formula.

Ilimit=(2000/RILM)+0.04

The result was same as TYP value of Iout current limit in 7.5 Electrical Characteristics.

But how is MAX and MIN value of being calculated?

Customer wants to know how to estimate the exact current limit range.

Could you share the calculation?

Thanks.

Regards,

Jo

  • Hi Jo,

Current limit value varies due to PVT variations. There is no exact equation to calculate max and min value . We arrive at these values from IC testing results. Customer can refer waveforms  Fig 16,Fig17,Fig18,Fig19  in datasheet for knowing the accuracy of current limit.

  • Hi Kunal,

    Thnaks for the reply.

However, customer wants to estimate the max, min value for their choice.

Customer want to confirm 2 things in TPS2595xx design calculator.

    1. For the row 38, Ilimit_final  Final current Limit Set Point, what does "Tolerance" mean?

    2. In Tolerance cell, what does 0.075 mean in the formula?

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    Jo

  • Hi Jo,

    1. Tolerance means variation in current limit. For eg it is 7.6% in figure so ILIM will vary from 3.95-7.6% to 3.95+7.6%

    2. 0.075 is average variation of current limit due to device which is also mentioned in datasheet . In tolerance cell we are taking two sources of variation ,one is device and other is RILIM resisitor.
