UCC27517: Can UCC27517's ground connect directly to ground pattern of PFC circuit main loop?

Part Number: UCC27517

Hi Team,

My customer is considering use UCC27517 for PFC circuit.

Customer asks that, can UCC27517's ground connect directly to ground pattern of PFC circuit main loop?

Customer wants to know what kind of (bad) effect to do this. Please tell us.

If this usage is not recommended, could you advise how to handle UCC27517's ground?

Thanks.

Regards,

Jo

  • Jo-san,

I need time to look at this and I will get back to you tomorrow.

  • Jo-san,

The gate driver's ground can be connected directly to the PFC's transistor source GND as shown here:

Also, the ground loop from the gate driver GND to Source GND must be minimized to reduce stray inductance in the gate-drive path.  This will help minimize ground noise / bounce experienced by the gate driver.

Also, please refer to Section 12, Layout Guidelines of the datasheet as reference to reduce the ground loop.
