BQ28Z610: BQ28Z610 EVM does not work ( initial FW inside )

Part Number: BQ28Z610
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Hi There,

         We are running BQ28Z610 EVM, but it works abnormally.  Below is some detail information,

        Connection :

        PACK+, PACK- : Connect 47ohm Resistor

        VC2, VC1, GND: Connect to related Power supply, VC1 voltage set 4V , VC2 voltage set 8v.  ( 2s battery )

        FW : initial FW inside, no updating the FW

       Procedure:

      1. power on

       2. press S1 switch, battery voltage will be guided to PACK's side and Wake up the device from shutdown mode.

      3.  After pressing S1 for 2 second, release the switch.

       4. DSG voltage : low 0.05v , CHG voltage :  4.03v

      The gauge is not working, Charging path is not work normally. What's more, EV2400 could not connect to BQ28Z610 successfully. Please help to check where the problem is.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Meriton,

    It looks like lots of modifications were made to the EVM. It is possible the IC was damaged while doing so. Please connect nothing to the EVM except the following

    1) Power Supple 1: GND --> VC1 (4V)

    2) Power Supple 2: VC1 --> VC2 (4V)

    3) The EV2400 cable to the I2C port.

    Once this is true, push the button 1 time (or short VC2 to pack +, for just a split second).

    Then open bqStudio. if it doesn't communicate, please post s picture of the error bottom right of the bqStudio window.

    I suspect it might be damaged.

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Hi Eric,

        Got it and well noted.

        I will do the experiment by this Friday, now I am out on business trip.

       Thanks for your suggestion.

  • Hi Eric,

       Please refer to below pic/register setting .

    Looking forward to your reply. Thanks.

  • Meriton,

    So everything looks to behave normally. Currently you are unable to charge because the CHG/DSG fets are off due to the FET_EN command not being enabled.

    You need to send command 0x0022 to MAC address 0x00. to enable the FETS

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Hi Eric,

           It works. Thanks so much.
