Dear sir/madam,

I am a lecturer at technical University of Cluj Napoca I am working with a PhD student on UCD3138PSFBEVM-027. The board comes with peak current mode control and I need to convert it to voltage mode control. Due to lack of time and because we are knew with this device we don't want to make modifications to the existing code.

By changing Kp, Ki, Kd, Kcomp I can damage the converter and I have only one board and a short time on my disposal. Is there a possibility to get a program with all the modifications tested that I can load in the UCD. I have to mention that I have very little experience with tis device and I don't have Code Composer installed. I have Fusion Studio installed which can help me load the file to the UCD3138.

Hi, Toma,

Thanks for working on UCD3138 PSFB topology. Although UCD3138 can support voltage mode control and peak current mode control, but it needs code changes and need reprogram the device. If you don't have the CCS installed, it would be difficult to implement voltage mode control. Normally, we recommend PCM control, I wonder what is reason you want to change to voltage mode control.

Thank you for your kind unser.

We are studying different control and optimization methods for the phase-shift and for DAB converters. This is why we purchased this board for Texas because we saw that we can test different control methods on it. I managed to install Code composer in the mean time.

Hi, Toma,

Per Ti policy, a click wrapped firmware need be generated, it takes some time to get it ready. I can recommend that you can download TI EVM HSFB code (https://www.ti.com/tool/UCD3138FW-HSFB). It is voltage mode control. Then you can modify PSFB EVM code for voltage mode control by referring HSFB code.

You may know, PCM control has better performances than VMC. I think PCM may be a better choice for your application.

Dear Sean,

Making modifications on the board has some risks of demining it especially if I have to make modifications on the PWM signals and on the PID coefficients and I have only one board on my disposal.

Do you know how much it will take because I am willing to wait for a firmware generated by TI.

I also saw that in Fusion there is a variant of this phase-shift converter with voltage mode control which I will like to use.

I managed to declare the variables and know it compiles without errors. Unfortunately after startup it immediately goes into overcurrent protection

Dear Toma,

It is good to know you fixed compilation errors.

I recommend to check if all DPWMs timing is correct. You can attach some waveforms when UCD3138 is powered on. When you check timing, you don't need apply input high voltage.
