TPS61175: How to program pulse skipping modulation and vary frequency digitally?

Part Number: TPS61175

HI! I am looking for developing variable frequency modulation (pulse frequency modulation) and pulse skipping modulation for light load conditions. I am planning to use an external controller like the c2000  TI launchpad for the above same process using MATLAB. Since the above part number is quite related to the query am quoting the above part number. so kindly advise me on how to design pulse frequency modulation and pulse skipping modulation for the DC-DC converter.

  • Hi Kameswara,

Hope that I call your name right. Blush

Customers can use the external signal connected to SYNC pin to set the IC switch frequency in preferred frequency range. Resistor also must be connected to the FREQ pin when IC is switching by the external clock. The external clock frequency must be within ±20% of the corresponding frequency set by the resistor. So this vary frequency has a limited range.

For pulse skipping modulation, since you will use external signal to set frequency, chip will automatically enter this mode at light load. The exact relationship between pulse skip frequency and load current is a complex function of L, Co, Vin, Vo and the control loop. Detailed information can be found in Understanding TPS61175’s Pulse-Skipping Function
