MC33063A: work in LDO mode

Hi team,

Does this device able to work at LDO mode in some certain conditions? 

I ask because my customer is using this device for 12V to 5V conversion, in their previous design they didn't use the diode, and it works well. I begin to suspect the device is working at LDO mode. 

Or what could be the problem?

    Hi Geoege,

    I don't think the device has such function. it seem that the internal parasitic diode between the Switching and GND pin acts as the freewheeling diode. I'm not sure about the risk without this diode. it is not a normal topology. I would suggest adding the diode back
