TLV62084A: Any need to place R/C filtering on EN input for ESD events?

Hi -

Because we have several of the TLV62084A regulators on our board and there is some upstream logic that can shutdown these regulators via the EN pin, I'm curious if there is any need to place a simple R/C filter at the EN pin.

My concern is that some spurious ESD event could ripple through the EN pins of our supplies and cause a brief disruption of power.

Is there already internal filtering and/or Schmitt triggers that would prevent a random event from rippling through the EN pins?

Thank you for reaching out. Can you please explain more about what exactly "spurious ESD event" mean?

In general, you should be careful about the ESD ratings mentioned in the datasheet of TLV62084A (https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tlv62084a.pdf ) in section 7.2.

Hi Farheen -

Primarily, I'm concerned about an indirect ESD event where a field is induced on the board. For example, a person in the vicinity sits down in a chair and discharges to something in the area. This triggers an EMI field which causes a brief event on the board. Effectively, this could result in very short disruption to stability of the EN pin.

If the EN pin has some internal filtering and/or a Schmitt trigger such that these sorts of events won't ripple through to the output signal, then it seems there should be no concern.

Hi Tom,

For the specific TLV62084A, there is a RC filter and an input buffer at EN pin for voltage glitches less than 100ns duration but for more than 100ns, it is recommended to have an additional RC filter at EN pin of TLV62084A.
