TPS22971: Can you tie PG to Vout directly?

Part Number: TPS22971

Hello E2E,

Can you tie the PG pin directly to Vout?  In other words, can a customer lay out a copper pour to cover A1, B1, and C1?  On startup, would there be issues with the output being able to charge up while PG is low (internal FET on)?  What would we need to ensure to make this work?

Thanks!

Russell

  • Hi Russell,

I would caution against this. The PG pin is not built to handle significant current flow through it and is only meant as a diagnostic response for the user. Connecting PG directly to VOUT, could cause an unsupported amount of current to flow through the open drain structure during its pull down state.

    Please use pull up resistor.

    Thanks,

    Shreyas
