BQ27621-G1: High sleep current

Schematic We're designing a new product with the BQ27621-G1, and we're having issues with high current draw. It's averaging about 100 µA when idle, oscillating between 50 µA and 150 µA. In this state, the SOC is powered off, leaving the data lines floating. The BQ27621-G1 has not been configured, and we are seeing similar values on all our devices. We have confirmed the BQ27621-G1 is solely responsible for this this current draw.

Can anyone advise on how to reduce the sleep current?

Hello Rachel,

How are you measuring the current consumption? Is the current probe placed at the BAT pins?

We are using an NGM202 battery simulator, which graphs the current flow through the BAT pins. We have confirmed these results with another instrument, and compared them both to a similar battery powered device in sleep mode.

You can't leave SCL/SDA floating - this can cause excessive current consumption because both FETs on the inputs can conduct to various degrees if there's a non-defined logic level.

SCL and SDA are not floating. They are pulled down with 806k resistors, in accordance with the datasheet.

Please remove the 10k resistor between VDD and GPOUT. This may contribute to the total current that you observe. What's the period of the current fluctuations? If the part is in sleep, it should be 20 seconds (default).
