TPS7A47: Basic question about "Output current"

Part Number: TPS7A47

Hi

Let me ask you a basic question about the output current as below.

The specification of the max current is defined as "1A" on the datasheet.

I think that "1A" is not changed by the output voltage, for example, 1.4Vout(min)/1A, 34V(max)/1A...

But there is a large difference about "power" (1.4W vs 34W).

I suppose, from "power" point of view, as the device has an ability to supply 34W, output current will be up to 24A when output is 1.4V...

Is my idea correct??

Or if we need a large power for output, we should set the output voltage as large as possible?

Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

  • Hello,

Great question. Yes you are correct in saying that the the max output current is 1A, you should not go past the 1A. If you want to have a larger power for the output you would need to increase the voltage as you stated above. Technically from a "power point of view" if you wanted to have 34W with a 1.4V output you could have an output current up to 24A but this device cannot handle that. Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Josh-san,

Thank you very much for your reply !

    I understood well.
