[FAQ] Do the following chargers have a termination current setting: BQ24715, BQ24725A, BQ24735, BQ24770, BQ24773, BQ24780S?

Do these chargers have a termination current setting at which point the device terminates the charge cycle, or will the charge current taper all the way down to zero in CV (constant voltage) mode?

  • This family of chargers is host-controlled. The host MCU must write to the ChargeVoltage() and ChargeCurrent() registers and control the charge profile as desired. There is no built-in termination current setting. On their own, these chargers will taper the charge current all the way down to zero in CV (constant voltage) mode. This is mainly due to legacy notebook battery charger design practices, in which the gauge will control the charge termination.
