BQ25895M: Design clarification

Part Number: BQ25895M

We are currently designing a project based on the tablet. For that we are using bq25895m as the charging IC. For charging and data transfer USB-TYPE C connector is using in our designed schematics. Whether bq25895m supports USB-type C connector?

In our schematics D+/D- pins of USB C connector is connected to processor. So What connection should be give to D+ and D- pins of charging IC(bq25895m). Could you please check and let me know?

  • In the datasheet of BQ25895M, I came across Device functional modes - Host mode and default mode. In datasheet it is given that, In default mode device can be used as an autonomous charger without host. We are using BQ25895M charging IC is only for battery charging and data is transferring directly from USB C connector to processor. So could we provide D+ and D- pins of charging IC as NO CONNECT?

  • Hi,

The device can work with 5V 3A  input USB type-C charging, but the charger can’t detect Type-C. A USB interface is needed.

The D+/D- pins of the BQ25895M should be connected to the USB type C D+/D- lines. If there are multiple devices connected on the D+/D- lines, USB switch may be used. Please refer to the DSEL pin descriptions on the BQ25895M d/s.

    Thanks,

    Ning.

  • Whether charging IC BQ25895M works without any software. Current we are planning to use this IC for charging of battery and for getting power for OTG cable from PMID pin of IC. As our assumption, in deafault mode charging IC will work without any software.

Kindly let me know whether our assumption is correct or not.

  • Hello Nikhitha,

You cannot charge and also get the OTP output, it would either be one or the other. The charger will work without software with the default configurations.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
