BQ25170: 18650 single cell

Part Number: BQ25170

Hi

I would like to charge Li-ION 18650 single cell Battery from a 6V solar paned or from USB input.

Battery will be connected in parallel to the load.

Good advantage will be if I have a protection for reverse battery protection.

Please let me know if BQ2517 is recommended or another Part Number.

If you have a reference design It will be helpful

    Hi Avraham, 

    Yes the BQ25170 has the capability to charge a Li-Ion battery from either a 6V source or USB input. The device has reverse current protection, but does not have reverse battery plugin protection. Extra circuity is required to protect against a reverse battery plugin. I have linked an application note below which provides example protection circuits.

    The BQ25170 can charge at up to 800 mA. What charge current are you intending to charge the battery at? Also, how much current will your parallel load draw?
