BQ78350: Data Flash File template.

Dear all,
we designed a Li-Ion battery pack, 10s2p, with 18650 cells.
We are using BQ78350-R2 and BQ76930.

Concerning the BQ78350, is there any "Data Flash File" as template?
I mean, a list of tipical values for XXsYYp Li-Ion battery.
Then we are going to adjust some values to fit our design.

For instance, what is the right value for "COV" and "AFE SOV" for a typical Li-Ion 18650 cell ?

    I think the default values in data flash for COV Threshold and SOV Threshold are typical for a Li-Ion 18650 cell. It will vary depending on the specific cell manufacturer, but the default values are commonly used.

    The "BQ78350 Technical Reference" states:

    3.3 Cell Overvoltage Protection
    The device can detect cell overvoltage in batteries and protect cells from damage by preventing further
    charging. 

    Usually the Li-Ion cell datasheet defines 4.20 V as max voltage (only few times they define the overvoltage protection value).

    A third-party laboratory is testing our battery samples.

    On the charging test (with higer voltage to simulate a fault charger), they verify that cells must be equal or lower than the max voltage defined on the datasheet (usually 4.20 V,   sometimes 4.25 V).

    For this reason we are evaluating to modify COV from 4.30 to 4.25 or 4.20 V.  ... but we are looking for any suggestions.

  • Hi Devis,

    I see 4.3V and 4.25V are commonly used for many user applications. 4.2V is also very common. You can look at some of our protector IC datasheets to see common settings for these protections (for example, https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq77905.pdf). It really depends on the specific cells and the guidance of the cell manufacturer.
