BQ78350-R1: Firmware corruption due to shutdown command

Part Number: BQ78350-R1

1. Is it a known issue that BQ78350-R1 a shutdown command that may brick the fuel gauge (cause firmware corruption)?

2. With reference to statement below, can you elaborate when will the SMBUS write to the data flash during shutdown process if we only send a shutdown command?

Reference statement: "Maybe there were SMBus writes to the data flash during the shutdown process which is a long process." [Source: e2e.ti.com/.../bq78350-r1-bq76930evm-bq78350-r1-bq76930-don-t-wake-up-on-shutdown-mode]

3. Is there a way to lengthen the shutdown process time to make sure all writes to the dataflash are completed during the shutdown when using a SHUTDOWN command?

  • Hi Eddie,

Some users have seen an issue like you describe. The issue was resolved in the latest version of firmware that can be downloaded from the product page. The new firmware (v1.04) improves the robustness of the Shutdown routine to ensure that writes to flash cannot occur once Shutdown starts. The BQ78350-R1A comes with the new firmware loaded, so we recommend switching to this device.

    Best regards,

    Matt
