BQ21040: 3.7V Battery Charger

Part Number: BQ21040
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25171-Q1, BQ25170

Hello,

I've a custom board with BQ21040 charger and I'm looking for to charge a Lipo battery with the following parameters:

1. Voltage: 3.7V

2. Capacity: 60mAh

3. Shape: Curved

Do you know if by some modifications of BQ21040 it'll possible to charge the above battery?

What is the current recommendation to charge capacity of 60mAh?

What is the charger recommendation of TI for the above battery? Please provide PN / reference design if exist.

Thanks,

Idan

  • Hi Idan,

The BQ21040 is configured to charge a battery to 4.2 V and this is not an adjustable parameter. The BQ25170 and BQ25171-Q1 are two options that can be configured to a charge voltage of 3.7 V. Both products have reference designs in their data sheets.

What is the current recommendation to charge capacity of 60mAh?

Please refer to the battery data sheet for recommended charge current. For reference, if you wanted to charge at 1C the current should be set to 60 mA, but the recommended charge rate is generally lower.

    Regards,

    Garrett
