TPS62230: About power-on sequence

Part Number: TPS62230

Hello!

Please tell me about TPS62231. If Vin and EN are applied while a voltage of 1.8V is applied to Vout, will the power supply start up?

Are there any other concerns when start up?

  • Hi User,

Thank you for your question. To better understand your startup scenario, can you please answer the following 2 questions ? Is there an external DC voltage of 1.8V applied to VOUT or is this voltage due to some temporary charge left on the output cap? Are you also using the device in PFM or PWM mode?

    Best regards,

    Varun

  • Thank you for your contact.

1, DC voltage of 1.8V applied to VOUT

2, Using the device in PFM mode

I will attach the circuit that I plan to actually use. In a state in which the risen one, the other does it rise?

  • Hi User,

For the case where the device is in PFM mode and VOUT is greater than or equal to the target VOUT of 1.8 V, the device won't switch. It will complete it's startup phase and but will start switching only when VOUT falls below the 1.8V target.

In the block diagram you attached, there are two TPS62231 devices supplying the same 1.8V rail. You should not stack the output of voltage regulators in parallel unless their control loop allows you to do so. Can you please let me know the reason for stacking them? In case it's for higher current, I would recommend using a single buck converter with higher current capability to supply the 1.8V rail.

    Best regards,

    Varun
