LM25088: Optimize light load behavior

Part Number: LM25088

I do have a  LM25088 design that is to run on VIN = 26V, VOUT=24V, I_MAX=10A. The controller works excellent when the load is fine. However my spec requires my design to run at no load. So I already added some base load using resistors. If load is reduced too much, output of the controller becomes unstable. It looks like ist ist turning on and off repetetiveley.

In case I want to optimize this light load behavior, what is the reason for the behaviour and what are the settings I do have to look at?

cheers Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

If possible, please send the schematic and a waveform. What is turning on and off repetitively?

Check that the SW voltage is going all the way to GND at light load (so that the boot cap can be charged as needed). If the load is light, there may not be enough inductor current to discharge the SW node capacitance fully to GND.

    Regards,
