Can you please elaborate on the applications of the UCC12040, and in particular the "Isolated voltage and current sensing" mentioned in the datasheet?
Are there any design examples showing how this IC is used?

Hi Tom,
The UCC12040 (3kV basic isolation) and UCC12050 (5kV reinforced isolation) are fully isolated, 500 mW, DC/DC converter modules. Think of any application where you might require up to 500-mW of 5-V to 5-V bias on both sides of an isolation barrier and the UCC12040/50 is the simplest solution you will find. The transformer, control and power stage are fully integrated into a 16-pin wide body SOIC package - very cool!
Many industrial applications in medical, motor control, grid tied relays, inverters as well as HEV/EV, automate applications (UCC12041-Q1 and UCC12051-Q1) like traction inverters, batter management systems, infotainment and isolated CAN communication, all require analog and digital signal to cross an isolation barrier. The components that bridge the isolation barrier need bias power and UCC12040/50 simplifies the task. Below are just a few examples, including voltage and current sensing you asked about:
