BQ28Z610: BQ28Z610 reports OVP false

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hi team

     My customer encountered a question about BQ28Z610 they used it for 2S pack.

      1、Pack's voltage is 8.65V after fully charged,  they left Pack for more than 8 hours(don't plugged into the adapter, and no load), some Pack's voltage become 8.3V, and the charge MOSFET is off,   state of gauge register shows the cell OVP.  but they set the cell's OVP threshold is 4.4V, and gauge shows the voltage of cell is 4.3V.

       2、For the remaining 8 packs that did not appear to be protected, customer used them walkie-talkie(EE) to simulate EMI interference around Pack. The frequency bands are 136-174MHz and 350-520 MHz.  After the interference, no protection is found immediately, but after left for a period of time,  5 of all these 8 packs  showed the cell OVP, and Q3 is closed;

       Can you give some advices about this question?

  • Hello Harry,

    The sensitive battery traces should be shielded from EMI as best as possible. If you're charging to 8.65V for pack and the COV is set at 4.4V, it wouldn't take much interference or cell imbalance to set the COV protection and shutoff the CHG FET.

    Do they observe that all 8 packs don't experience the protection being enabled when there's no EMI introduced?

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
