MC34063A: Does MC34063A can replace NCP3063 directly ?

Hi team,

Does MC34063A can replace NCP3063 directly? PCB can not modify. 

Some application Pin8 and Pin1 connect each other. Pin8 of NCP3063 is NC. thanks!

    Hi, Jimmy,

    MC34063A is not a exact replacement of NCP3063. If replace NCP3063 with MC34063A, the following parameter should be taken care:

    1. Frequency: the charge and discharge current of NCP3063 is about 275uA/1650uA, which is higher than MC34063A (35uA/220uA). Direct replace NCP3063 with MC34063A will result in frequency decrease.

    2. Current limit sense voltage: the sense voltage for NCP3063 is 200mV, which is smaller than 300mV of MC34063A. Direct replace NCP3063 with  MC34063A may results in overcurrent.

    3. Main switching BJT configuration is different. MC34063 can be configured to be Darlington configuration and non Darlington configuration. and NCP3063 is configured to be Darlington configuration only. With this difference, converter efficiency is different.

    4. Due to the difference of main switching BJT and application circuit, pin 8 may have a resistor for MC34063A. (The resistor is not needed for pin8 for NCP3063)

    Hi, Jimmy,

    MC34063A is pretty close to NCP3063. If customer is willing to tune their circuit, it is a good replacement. I am not aware of a part that is closer to NCP3063 than MC34063A.
