LMR36015-Q1: Unable to simulate LMR36015A-Q1 part on Webench using custom designed part

Part Number: LMR36015-Q1

Hi Team,

We are facing issue with TI Webench while doing LMR36015A-Q1 IC Simulation with customized part data.

Webench stops to respond after entering custom part parameters and parameters are not updating on screen as well.

After all, Webench crashes and ask to start from New Design. We are also unable to open the previously saved design of same IC after getting error.

 Kindly provide the solution for the same at the earliest.

  • Hello,

    I will assign this to our Webench team to assist you in this.

    Please share the input and output parameters as well as the custom part parameters that you are using, these will be helpful to replicate and resolve the issue.

    Regards,

    Harrison Overturf

  • Hi Harrison,
    Please find attached image of the circuit that I am going to simulate on Webench. Below are the changes in the circuit:

    Here, L1 value is 10uH/88mOhm. Webench mostly get stuck when customizing value of below components:
    - L1
    - Rfbb
    - Cout

  • Hello Sunil,

    Could you please share the design link with us using the Share Design option so that we can look into it.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Atul.

  • Hi Sunil,

    As Atul has pointed out we will need below information to start with debug process. My initial guess is the design is not compatible (might be hitting some kind of checks e.g. temperature, phase margin, current limit ) with newly added custom components. But this has to be looked into and verified. If you could share below information, we should be able to start with debug process

    1. VinMin=?, VinMax=?, Vout=?, Iout=?, Ta(ambient temp)=?, Fsw=?

    2. Design link as requested by Atul (share public link: copy-paste here in replies)

    3. New custom components values (for all custom components you are trying to change)

    - L1 = ?
    - L1_DCR = ?
    - Rfbb = ?
    - Cout = ?
    - Cout_ESR = ?

    Kind Regards

    Bhushan

  • Hi Atul and Bhushan,

    Please find the design link as below:
    https://webench.ti.com/appinfo/webench/scripts/SDP.cgi?ID=2AB3A60E2466147D

    I have already modified the all components parameters except L1 as per our design. L1 parameters are as per below:

    - L1=10uH

    -L1_DCR=88mOhm

  • Hello Sunil,

    We are looking into the issue and will get back on this soon.

    Meanwhile you can export the design in Tina and run the simulation with the updated inductor value.

    I have attached the design for the same.

    Regards,

    Atul.

  • Hello Sunil,

    Please find the below explanation as why the design fails to create and the solution.

    1.  Webench does not have loop model for two different output cap(cout and coutx) for DCM (calculation below) mode of operation. Hence the failure.
    2. Please find few solutions below
             a. Update cout and coutx capacitors to same value (same value and ESR). You should be able to create the design for L = 10uH.                            88mOhm. I have shared the design for your BOM by making Cout and coutx same (19uF*2 for both caps).

                 https://webench.ti.com/appinfo/webench/scripts/SDP.cgi?ID=21C172A37F6182E2

             b. Or we can make sure the design is in CCM mode of operation (by increasing inductor to 11uH)
             c. Or As stated above, you can always export the schematic to TINA and change the required BOM and run the simulations.

    Duty cycle calculation for ideal conditions.

    fsw = 400KHz
    L = 10uH
    duty = vout / vin = 0.138

    ton = duty * tsw = 3.47e-7

    vton = (vin - vout) = 31

    Ipp = vton * ton / L = 1.08. Here iout<ipp/2.
