TPS1H100-Q1: TPS1H100BQPWPRQ1 pin to pin replacement appears to be TPS27S100BPWPT however Continuous reverse current when reverse polarity Irev1 is different

TPS1H100BQPWPRQ1  Irev1 (Continuous reverse current when reverse polarity) = 4A typ

TPS27S100BPWPT  Irev1 (Continuous reverse current when reverse polarity) = 2A typ

Our design uses TPS1H100BQPWPRQ1  which has shared ground network between 10-HSD with a resistor and diode in parallel between device ground and board ground, as recommended by datasheet.

Due to scarcity of  TPS1H100BQPWPRQ1 device in market, if we consider TPS27S100BPWPT , We do not see any down side in device performance, however under fault condition, we would like to get TI advice from device design engineers.

    These two devices are pin to pin compatible, and the feature set should be the same. About the fault condition, they have the same behavior according to the following tables. Please let us know if you have any specific concerns.

    Is continuous reverse current a concern when in reverse polarity ? As two device has significant difference in rating. Can you ask device engineers ? 

  • Hi Vikhyat,

    For reverse polarity situation, normally it's recommended to add a blocking diode or ground network for such protection rather than relying on the body diode. If output is shorted to another supply, and the only impedance is from the FET, then the current is likely to exceed 4A as well.

    Please refer to datasheet section 7.3.4.7 for more reverse polarity protection if that's a situation in real application.
