Voltage tracking LDO

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: REG1117

I am looking for an LDO with very low Vdrop as a sensor supply;  Input voltage is 8V and load is ~8V @ 350ma - 400ma.  Does TI have any low drop voltage trackers?

  • I'm also interested in parts like the TLE4250/1/2/3/4. Even nicer would be if some of them were dual-supply NPN LDOs with a bias input. (You don't always have it, but it's nice to have the option of the improved stability & transient response if you do have a bias supply available.)

I'd also like a lower minimum output voltage than the CS8182/3/NCV8184. H'm.. the ADP1707 can track all the way down to 0V, but its architecture has a higher current on the track pin.

  • TI's Power Quick Search tool returned the TPS7301 and REG1117 as potential ICs for your solution.  Note that I searched on Vin=9V and Vout=8V.  Searching on Vin=8V and Vout=8V will not return an LDO as a solution.  These will give you an LDO operating in dropout where the output voltage follows the input voltage minus the voltage drop across the pass element.  If the input voltage increases, the LDO will maintain an 8V output voltage.
