BQ76942: BQ76942

Part Number: BQ76942
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76920, BQ76930, BQ76940

Hi,

We are currently planning to design BMS using BQ76942 for our battery pack. And it will be mass produced in high volumes. I would like to know how far TI will continue manufacturing this IC. How does the future of this chip look like?

Thank and Regards

Sudip K

  • Hi Sudip,

TI has a large number of customers for this device and it is expected to ship into many application for the next 10 years at least. I predict it will ship much longer than this because our older family of battery monitors (BQ76920, BQ76930, BQ76940) has been shipping for 9 years and is still going strong.

TI has very strict internal policies about product life cycle which you can read about in more detail here: https://www.ti.com/support-quality/quality-policies-procedures/product-life-cycle.html To summarize, if there are still any sales for the last five years, it will continue production.

However, I encourage you to place orders for this specific device very early. Supply is limited in the current environment and it is very popular, so lead times can be very long.

    Best regards,

    Matt
