BQ27441-G1: Reading State of Charge

Part Number: BQ27441-G1

Hello,

monitoring continously the state of charge, this is not updating correctly.
In particular, when I reboot the entire custum board, the values are updated differently from the previous reading.

I will give you an example.
I turn on the board and the state of charge is 80%. After 5 minites it changes to 79%.
Then, I reboot the board and the new state of charge become 75%.

The component is not in hibernate mode.

How can I get rid of it and monitor correctly and continously the state of charge?

Thank you

  • Hello Marco,

The gas gauge must stay powered by the battery to let it gauge correctly.

Rebooting the gas gauge will make it start learning again because it thinks a new battery may be present. If you look at battery characteristics, then the voltage of a battery that just discharged is lower than one at rest with same state of charge. This and many other adjustments are required to correctly gauge state of charge. The gauge will eventually correct itself but you will get best accuracy by not disconnecting battery from gauge.

  • Hello,

thank you for the reply; we resolved following the evaluation board schematic, in which the load and the battery charger are connected in parallel to the gauge.

In our initial configuration instead, the battery charger was connected only with the battery.
