LM74500-Q1: Some design question about LM74500-Q1

Part Number: LM74500-Q1

Dear Sirs,

Here is my customer schematics. They just use it for reverse 48V input protection.

The questions are:

1. Does LM74500-Q1 suit switching power source input protection since the datasheet shows the input source is from the battery?

2. Will the reverse energy go back to input source and damaged the power source if the reverse voltage input existing long enough?

3. If LM74500-Q1 is not a proper solution for switching power sources, what solution will you suggest for such design requirements?

Thanks.

  • Hi Peter,

LM74500-Q1 can protect the down stream load and itself from input reverse polarity for any time duration.

It can work for any input source - Battery or DC/DC converter. It is specifically mentioned as battery source because in automotive applications, there is chance that the battery terminals are interchanged thereby applying reverse polarity. In case of DC/DC converters it is generally not possible to have reverse voltage at their outputs.

In your application is it possible that the DC/DC converter can generate a reverse voltage at its output ?
