BQ24610EVM: Interfacing a Battery Management Evaluation Module with a BQ24610 Evaluation Module

Part Number: BQ24610EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ24610,

This question pertains to interfacing a charging module to a battery management module

I Recently purchased a BQ40Z50EVM module for battery management of 4S1P 18650 3.7V, 2500mAh unprotected cells. The BQ40Z50 datasheet make mention of the PACK+ and PACK- connection points. My understanding is I can simply connect the BQ24610EVM charger to the management IC (VBAT) to charge the 4 batteries with the BQ24610EVM (to PACK+ and PACK-) while managing them with the BQ40Z50? I wanted to verify my application of the BQ40Z50 interfaced with the charger BQ24610 was correct. Also, if it helps to know, I plan to charge at 16.8V with a 2.5A charge current (1C).

  • Hello Colbey,

    Sorry for the late response.

Yes your understanding is correct, the charger will charge from the top of stack which would be the PACK+ and PACK- connections on the BQ40Z50 EVM. So VBAT would connect to PACK+ for your system, and PACK- would be the "GND" for the charger EVM.
