Hello team,

my customer asked if there are  guidelines for PoE PD outdoor surge protection at 8kV and 10kV

I found guidelines only for 4kV at Lightning Surge Considerations for PoE Powered Devices

    I have never seen an 8kV or 10kV rated design for PoE. can you tell me more about this application?

    We have a 6kV rated PSE design that would have the parts we would recommend to use in a PD design: TIDA-01411

    The application is outdoor power supply and data, The PD will be outdoor and should be protected, the PSE will be indoor.

    customer saw the 6kV design, but requires 8kV protection

    are there any guidelines available?

    Since we never see this before, we don't have a specific part number recommendation. However, we have the following application note on Surge protection for PoE PD's

    I would suggest implementing all of the SPD's in Figure 5 but use parts that are 8kV rated. 

    The reference design I shared in my last post demonstrated with diagrams and pictures on how we setup our surge tests.
