LM63625-Q1: Output Short-to-battery

Part Number: LM63625-Q1

Hi team,

Our customer would like to know the operation in LM63625-Q1 when output is shorted to a higher voltage(eg. 7V shorted to a 12V Battery).

Is there any overvoltage protection circuit in this device?

Thank you,

Muwei Zheng

  • Hello Muwei,

For shorting output voltage to potential lower than input voltage, current limits will ensure device safety.

For shorting output voltage to potential higher than input voltage, customer is recommend to use schottky diode from sw to vin to avoid current running through body diode of high side FET.

Ensure specific application schematic is reference and compared against rest of absmax table.

    In addition,

The output wouldn't be actively reduced to nominal output voltage. Bucking only occurs in one direction.

Device would stop switching after OV condition is signaled.

  • Hi Marshall,

Thank you for the answer to short-to-battery situation.

I still have a question about OVP. I've seen the word "OVP" used in datasheet but I didn't find any description of it. What is the detail for OVP in LM63625?(threshold, detect method, etc.)

  • Hello Muwei,

Nominal FB voltage is 1V for adjustable device. OVP condition is signaled when FB voltage is detected to be above its nominal voltage.
