BQ24070: thermal protection

Part Number: BQ24070
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24074, , BQ24072

Hello Expert,

We would like to set  cold temp -10 degree & hot temp 60 degree. And when temperture hit the threshold charger will stop charging. like bq24074 Battery Pack Temperature Monitoring.

Could we use the same way on bq24070?

If yes, Could you help to calculated the value of RS, RP? thasnk!

Jim

  • Hi Jim,

    Yes you can modify the temperature thresholds using a parallel and series resistor on the TS pin. You'll see this detailed in section 8.3.2 of the datasheet. You can refer to the  Linear Charger TS NTC calculator. Do note that you will need to modify the I_TS parameter to 100uA, V_H to 0.5V, and V_C to 2.5V on the BQ2407X page as it is configured for BQ24072 and above.

    If you have information on the thermistor that is being used, I can verify the parameters on my end.

  • Hello Anthony,

    Thanks so much for your help. I am appreciates that.

    here is Calculated result.

    Hot=60c Cold=-10c

    R_S= 383

    R_P=38242

    Could you please help me check from your end?

  • Hi Jim,

    As mentioned, you do also need to change the V_H and V_C values as the BQ24070 uses 0.5V and 2.5V respectively. Once this has been done, if you are not changing the R_THERM column values, the calculated series resistor is 2669 Ohms and the parallel resistor is 51191 Ohm.

    Please confirm the thermistor values or if you have a thermistor part that is going to be used, please provide that.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony Pham
