TPS63802: Not getting expected output.

Part Number: TPS63802

Hiya,

I am using TPS63802 regulator (2Nos) in my board to generate 3.6V and 3.8V. Unfortunately I am not getting the expected output. Could anyone help me to find out the problem?

I can see sufficient voltage in the Vin pin and enable pin (3.7V)  , not getting VFB voltage to the sufficient level its getting 0.125V in the 3.6V regulator and 0.213V in the 3.8V regulator.

  • Hi  sarath,

is it possible output current is too high, then Vout is pulled down?

  • Hi Tao,

    Thanks for the reply.

I used TI webench for selecting the components, regulators designed as below 3.6V 1A, 3.8V 2A.

Is there any checking method for the IC pin voltages and is there any expected results on each pin if its working correctly?

    Sarath

  • Also could you please give a comment on the PCB design, first time I am trying PCB design so surely there will be problems. If you can point out the issues it will be a great help for me,

  • Hi  sarah,

for the voltage of pins, you can find many usefull information from datasheet. such as absolute maximum ratings and electeical characteristics.

for your layout, that is really poorJoy

point1:swap the location of C14 and C44 to make a smaller spike of VIN pin

point2:make sure the PCB trace is wide enough to carry a high current, such as L1 L2 pins to inductor

point3:C24 should be as close as possible to chip

anyway  you can take the layout example from datasheet as reference

additional, i think you should use two 22uF in parallel as output cap.

  • Hi Tao,

Thanks for your reply, I like the smile from a TI intellectual that gave me more charge for my improvements ;)  this is ok than I expected.

I will take the points what you suggested and will redesign the board.

    Sarath

  • Hi   sarath,

you are welcome, if you have any other questions, please let me know. or else, let us finish here.

    have a nice day.

  • Hi Tao,

Once I redesign the board I post the power supply part here and you can give a comment on that if you are ok to do so.

So please keep this chat as unresolved, thanks.

    Sarath

  • Hi   sarah,

i will wait till your case close. do not worry.

BTW, follow the layout example in datasheet is a good idea.
