EV2400 Stopped working suddenly

Hi,

My EV2400 programmer has stopped working suddenly. No LEDs on, the windows recognises that it is a TI device but neither the firmware updater neither the Battery Management Studio recognises it.

I checked the voltage on the I2C pull up lines and it shows 4.2V which might be some default value which means that its voltage rail is not programmed from the MCU..

What can I do?? Isn't possible to reprogram somehow the MCU? If electronically it is all good and might just need a reflashing of the memory.

I ordered the programmer from Ti store with the order number: T00548190, data placed: 10/02/2019.

Please advice!

Hello Andras,

The EV2400 default value for I2C pullups is 3.3V.

4.2V seems high.

Hi,

The problem is that there is no LED on when I plug it in and there is no communication either.

Before it was on and communicated perfectly. I did not do anything special to this device.

Wouldn't it be possible to ask for a replacement part?
By the way there is no hole, black spots on the PCB and all LDOs and voltages on the board are correct (3.3, 1.8V) only this 4.2V on pluu up lines is not correct.

I think it might need a reprogramming via J8 header (JTAG).

Hello Andras,

Disconnect the EV2400 and try rebooting your PC.

The messagebox suggests that the EV2400 is connected but some other application may be using it. You may want to check background processes too.

Hi Shirish,

Did not help at all.

I also tried to supply it from the aux 5V supply but nothing. No Led.

I also tried with other PCs, also nothing.

If you are not having any luck with programming, then it could be a hardware component failure.

But all chips inside work well, consumes nominal...It might also be a reprogramming/bootloader issue.. I have seen before many devices that went out of its booting sequence because of a high voltage spike or some glitch in the memory. Is there any way to reprogram the MSP430? It could solve the issue. EV2400 is not a cheap device I think it is worth the pain doing it. This is not the first time people has similar unexpected issue with EV2400 as I see in this forum so it would be great if you could kindly help us out. Thanks!

Hello Andras,

The EV2400 firmware updater is the standard way to program. You can try with the -s option.
