hi,
for power loss, you can use below equation.
switching loss = die loss - conduction loss.
conduction loss =(Ton* high side Rdson * Io+Toff *low side Rdson*Io)/T
die loss =total loss - inductor loss
Hi Holly,
Can you explain with below example,
Input - 5V
Output -3.3V / 2A
You choose suitable L/C and share the power loss with calculation for better clarification.
What is switching loss calculation?
hi
for inductor loss: DC loss can be easily got by I2DCR, and About AC loss, some inductor Vendors provide the calculation at their official Web, but some do not, suggest to check inductor vendor for details.
for conduction loss: the parameters of the high side Rdson, low side Rdson and T show in the datasheet.
HI Holly,
Please share switching loss calculation of both internal Mosfet considering operating parameter like switching frequency, Current, Mosfet resistance/Capacitance.
Please share calculator for RMS current calculation.
do you mean RDS? below is the table from datasheet. 650 kHz Switching Frequency. recommend you read datasheet.
Hi Holly,
Yes, This info is available in datasheet.
We need to calculate switching loss based on frequency and mosfet capacitance. Please share equation for calculating switching loss of both mosfet.
We will add this switching loss with conduction loss and estimate to total power loss of TPS563209
Hi,
do you mean you want to use below method?
for MOSFET switching loss you could use function:0.5*VD*ID*(tsw(ON)+tsw(OFF))*fs
VD is the drain-source voltage when mosfet off, as shown in the picture; ID is the drain-source current when mosfet on, as shown in the picture; tsw(on/off) is the mos on/off time
but don't recommend this. because don't know tsw.
Hi Holly,
Then what is the other option?
as per your first comment,
"""""
switching loss = die loss - conduction loss.
conduction loss =(Ton* high side Rdson * Io+Toff *low side Rdson*Io)/T
die loss =total loss - inductor loss
"""""
Inductor loss and conduction losses can be calculate but die loss, switching loss and total loss are three unknown parameter.
We need to calculate theoretically the power loss of convertor IC. We can extract die loss if we have practically board but we need to calculate this theoretically before design and test.
Hi Kalpesh,
TI has Webench tool which can help calculate die loss. With this tool, you can calculate die loss and efficiency at any conditions.

Edwin.
