BQ24168: BQ24168 set 0°C-45°C charge temperature

Part Number: BQ24168

Hi

The customer design with BQ24168, they set the charge temp 0°C-45°C, but when the battery temperature high than 45°C, the charger does not stop charge.

Attached the schematic for your reference.

R29 is about 9.8K, R30 is about 31K, R29 used on the actual board is 10K, and R30 is 33K.

The resistance of the NTC thermistor inside the battery is 10K.

Why the charger does stop charge at 45°C?

Thanks

Star

  • Dear Star,

What is the value of the thermistor at 45C? Also, what is the voltage on the TS pin when this is happening? Please confirm that the TS pin is or is not beyond the hot battery threshold.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel

  • Hi Mike Emanuel

    Thanks for your reply.

    The value of the thermistor at 45C is 4.88X10^3Ω;
In this case, the voltage on the TS pin is 1.48V.

    The NTC SPEC as below:

    Thanks

    Star.

  • Dear Star,

I am having trouble understanding your request.

In one part of the first post you say, "when the battery temperature high than 45°C, the charger does not stop charge." In another, you say, "Why the charger does stop charge at 45°C?"

What is the operation at 45°C?

Also, with a TS of 1.48 V, the TS percentage of VDRV is 28.5%. The hot battery threshold is 30% of VDRV. At the provided TS voltage the charger will suspend charge.

    Thanks,

    Mike Emanuel
