TPS92682-Q1: 2 issues customer met about its boost function

Part Number: TPS92682-Q1

Hi team

I have 2 issues encountered by our customer and need your help to give some investigate suggestions:

Q1. By repeatedly plugging and unplugging the power of the control board (which contain the TPS92682), the Boost driver cannot achieve normal boost operation, and it may be accompanied by a sudden increase in current (up to 3A occasionally), why does the current occur such a sudden increase, or what are the possible factors for such a phenomenon? Could it be related to the register settings? Customers doubt the soft-start time of the chip. Is this possible? What are the directions that can be checked?

Q2. When the 92682 step-by-step boost input from 5V to 18V (that is to say, input 5V at first, then slowly increase the input voltage from 5V to 18V), BOOST cannot boost normally.
But if we input the 12V at the beginning, the boost chip can boost the input voltage. What is the possible reason? Because the customer's electrical performance experiment may need to gradually increase the input from 5~18V, so is there any solution to avoid this problem?

Here I also got customer software configuration of TPS92682Q1, since I'm not expert at software so could you please help to check it whether the configuration is properly? Thank you very much.

  • Zirui,

We are going to need a lot more details from you to help.

For Q1:  Can you have a scope capture of the input current along with the switching node of the power stage and output current if it's used as a Constant Current controller or output voltage if it's used as a constant voltage controller.  The current has to go some where and that's where we want to find out if it's related to our IC and power stage.  If there is no switching going on then the current can be do to your plugging and unplugging of the control board and charging up caps on the board.

For Q2:  When you are stepping the boost input voltage from 5V to 18V is there any communications issue with the TPS92682 after it's up to about 12V?  Please read all the resister settings when you say that the boost cannot boost normally.  And Please define 'boost normally' and it's failure.  What is happening then.  Is there an issue with the uController commands to the TPS92682?

    Thanks Tuan
