BQ24314A: supported current exceeding 1.5A but below abs max ratings

Hi,

I'm currently looking into implementing battery protector IC BQ24314A onto my design. One of the issue I faced now is that the device is rated to support up to 1.5A and on my application when battery level is low my device may subject to current of up 1.8A when charging. Hence may I know if it's okay to continue to apply this device on my design? I did noticed that absolute max current rated at 2.0A hence had the intention to use this device. Thanks.

Hi Leo,

The part will apparently remain functional to the ABS MAX current, but the 1.5 A recommended limit was placed for some reason. I would not recommend using it above the recommended current. Higher currents may not be achievable with all devices with the RILIM selection.

Hi,

Since end application may foresee high current charging (up 1.8A) I would defer from using this protector IC then. If that's the case, are there any protector IC within portfolio which is capable of supporting up to 1.8A~2A supply current?

Hi Leo,

The protector selection can be found at www.ti.com/battery, but the highest current is 1.7A in the BQ24381 and BQ24382.
