TPS63002: Overheating component

We started to use the TPS63002 on a new PCB design, we noticed that the PCB was heating where the IC was placed, we isolated compoenent to check if the issue was coming from other components added after the IC. we also noticed that other boards do not get hot. By looking at the components placed on the PCBs, I noticed that on the PCB where the IC was not heating up was different.

The marking is as follows:

PCB Heating up -> BPV 821 CLOX

PCB working Ok -> BPV 821 CHRV

Is there any difference within the ICs, we checked the dataheet and nothing regarding this marking was specified.

unfortunately, we can not find any information about BPV 821 CLOX yet while BPV 821 CHRV is exist.

what do the numbers on the marking stand for? is there any way to trace one chip from the other besides looking directly on the chip? if we keep using this chip we need a way to trace it and a way to request to our suppliers, what is your advice regarding this? how can we trace which chip has been supplied besides looking at the external marking on the housing?

Hi Alejandra,

Fake components (xrayed and cloned) are rampant throughout the supply industry. Don't you know who the supplier is? That TI can't find the chip might indicate it's a clone and they having bothered silking the same details on the top of it as the real thing (which also happens). When I've had this issue in the past (fake mlcc's was the last one) I've had to use details from the reel to validate with the manufacturer.
