TPS2378EVM-105: Question

Part Number: TPS2378EVM-105
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2378

Hi there, I'm new with PoE but slowly learning. I've got a question about the TPS2378EVM-105.

Is it a PoE injector? Because I'm looking for a PoE and the design confuse me

This is what it shows but it should show the below picture if it was an injector (mids-pan).

I just want to make sure the PD will be J1 witch receive the power + data

  • Hello,

The TPS2378 is a Powered Device (PD). It is anything that receives power over an ethernet cable through the IEEE802.3 spec.

A PoE Injector supplies power, therefore the TPS2378 is not a PoE injector.

The block diagram shows that the TPS2378 can recieve power from either a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE aka network switch with power or a PoE injector) OR it can receive power from an adapter (like a 12V barrel jack power source).

The "Ethernet Device" is the actual end equipment -- the wireless access point, the camera, the phone, etc.

If this post answers your question, please indicate so by marking this thread as resolved. Thank you.
