UCC27517A: Turn on Glitch

Part Number: UCC27517A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27517

I am using a UCC27517 as an alternate to SN74LVC3G Buffer. As per the below waveform, the switching is at 5MHz and the current is almost 60mA.

The UCC27517 is used as a low side to turn on the Optical Transmitter as shown in fig 2. could you possibly highlight me the possible reason for such behaviour. I donot see such 1st peak with SN74LVC3G

  • Hi Deepak,

    Thanks for reaching out!

This ringing may be caused by the high drive strength of the gate driver and the parasitic inductances / capacitances in the traces, optical transmitter diode, etc.  Are you able to put a resistor in series of the output of the driver?  Something from 1 Ohm to 5 Ohms may be a good start.

I look forward to hearing back from you!

  • Thanks Aaron,

The issue is resolved when i place the current limiting resistor of 56 ohms on cathode instead of anode of the optical transmitter.
