BQ78350-R1: CRC or Checksum Method

Hello,

There is a communication using SMBus protocol between I2C port of MCU and BQ78350-R1. However, it is not available to get correct data from the gauge IC everytime. Rarely, the data read from gauge IC is coming as corrupted. (different from actual value). For elimanating or rejecting the corrupted data, Is using one of the checksum or CRC methods good idea or not? If yes, would you suggest me useful documents or source describing the CRC or checksum methods

Hi Yusuf,

One thing to keep in mind is I2C and SMBus are not identical. The examples and "Most Common Problems" section from this documet (https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua475/slua475.pdf ) may be helpful to help debug your issue. There is a PEC feature on the BQ78350-R1 SMBus that can be used to reject corrupted data.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your fast response.

I can read PEC value received for calculating the CRC. But this value doesn't match with my calculation. Which sections of the package does the PEC include? In another word, how is the PEC calculated?

Would you please suggest to me a document or offer me a formulation?
