BQ24041: burnt out

Dear team

The product of bq24041 (Scooter IOT application) has been burnt out recently.

The burned-out place is the Vout of the charger, please refer to the figure below.

Because BQ24041 itself also has short and thermal protection.
I have tried several short-circuit and high-current charging experiments, but none of them can replicate the burnout phenomenon.
Even if it entered the warm cabinet, it did not burn down...

Under what conditions, there is a chance to cause this phenomenon!!

    Hello Denny,

    Burn out / EOS damage can be caused from abs max violation on one of the pins.

    If the battery is attached from a hot-bar solder process this can trigger ESD events that could damage the IC. Another possibility is if the battery was connected backwards this would damage the OUT pin. On the FCT tester- are you able to do a spike check to monitor the voltages?

    Also on the schematic, we recommend 1uF min capacitance on the OUT pin.

    Hi Nick

    Another question is that due to the setting of the product's FW behavior, the MCU will "turn off" the charger IC every 2 seconds, that is, Pin-9 will pull High every 2 seconds to turn off the charging function.
    Turn it off for about 100ms each time, then turn it on again...2 seconds later, turn it off again for 100ms,...and so on.

    Will this behavior damage the charger IC?

    We have not seen any failures due to disable/enable of charger. How many units are they seeing this on?
