BQ27520-G4: Current measurement resolution

Part Number: BQ27520-G4

Is there an option (setting or another part) where the current measurement resolution is <1mA?

It seems that the current has a resolution of 1mA. The TechRef notes that AverageCurrent( ) and InstantaneousCurrent( ) return a signed integer in units of mA.  Are there options with a resolution of 0.1mA or less?

  • Hello Nick,

There are no options or gauges that will report in 0.1mA, at that low of current the gauge uses voltage based measurements based on the chem ID to determine the SOC.

The only way you may be able to get lower resolution is to manually calibrate the gauge incorrectly with a larger sense resistor. For example use a 50mOhm instead of 5mOhm sense resistor, then when 100mA is flowing calibrate the gauge but set it to 1A. So when the gauge reports 1mA it would actually be 0.1mA.

We don't recommend doing this, it would not really be for gauging uses anymore since the current is low enough to use voltage based gauging. It would only be to read lower current values if you need that information.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
