[FAQ] How does the input over voltage protection work on the BQ24133 and the BQ24170?

Part Number: BQ24133
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24170, , BQ24171, BQ24172

The OVPSET pin of the BQ24133 and BQ24170 chargers is to make sure the chargers operate in the valid input voltage range. Program the OVPSET pin with a voltage divider from the input to GND with the middle point connected to the OVPSET pin. If the OVPSET pin rises above the internal 1.6-V, this indicates input overvoltage. If the OVPSET pin falls below the internal 0.5-V reference this indicates input undervoltage. Either condition will result in charge stopping, the input ACFET/RBFET turning off, and the STAT pin to blink. In other words, OVPSET between 0.5V to 1.6V indicates a valid input voltage.

The same operation principle applies to the following chargers: BQ24171 and BQ24172
