TPS2511: Problem with charging when using a extension cable

Hi there,

For a customer we have developed a system incorporating the TPS2511 and TPS54240 controllers.
The board has a micro USB out for dimension reasons. 
Connecting a phone with an adapter cable(micro to USB-A Female) + charging cable makes the phone charge correctly.

However, when the customer extends the cable the charge rate drops.
This doesn't happen when he connects an iPhone, only when he connects an Samsung phone.

I think the cable might be too thin, thus resulting in a voltage drop, but the customer assured me this should not be a problem.

Is there any other lead I could check?

    Based on your description, I would assume that the Samsung phone is drawing enough current that the TPS2511 is going into current limit and eventually turning off the 5V bus. 

    You should be able to see this on a scope if you monitor VBUS.

    You should check to see what you have the ILIM set to

    Apple products are usually very good about sensing the divider settings on our charge port controllers and respect the output current limit.  I am not sure how the Samsung phone is interpreting our settings.

    You can change the ILIM resistor to allow for more current and see if that resolve the issue, or if you have a current meter on your scope, you can sense the current draw and see if it exceeds the value that you have configured.
