BQ25887EVM: BQ25887 BOARD DESIGN

Part Number: BQ25887EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25887

Hi my name is Babu

If we see in the evaluation module of BQ25887, there are small small holes, can you tell me what is that hole exactly is ? Is that hole is wear or something else?

Can you tell me the reason for using these holes in the evaluation module which is shown in below image in circle?

Could you please tell me the exact reason for using the resistors R21, R22, R23, R24, R25 in the evaluation module?

Could you please tell me the reason for using the plane gold color plating in the evaluation module?

  • Hi Babu,

The small holes are filled and plated stitching vias that connect electrically equivalent pours/planes on one layer to one or more internal layers in order to reduce the resistance getting to the other layers.

R1-R25 are additional cell balancing resistor pads to make it easier to test different and/or parallel resistors.

That gold plane is used to install an inductor current loop.  You can remove the inductor, resolder one of the inductor pads to that plane and another to one of the inductor pads and then add an wire from that pad to other inductor pad.  This current loop can be used with an o-scope current probe to measure inductor current.
